What is Niche Marketing?

niche_marketingThe word ‘niche’ is defined as: “A special area of demand for a product or service”. ‘Marketing’ is defined as: “The opportunity to buy or sell”. If you put the two works together, niche marketing means buying or selling a product or service in a special area of demand. All that really means is that a product or service is being sold to the people who are most interested in that particular product or service and not to the world in general.

Oftentimes big businesses use niche marketing. For example, a company that makes computers and computer accessories might advertise all-in-one copy/printer/scanners to the home computer user while at the same time advertising single function machines to large businesses.

One of the things that make niche marketing so attractive to sellers is that their advertising budgets go further. It costs less to advertise to a specialized market than it does to advertise to a broader market.

Niche marketing must be designed to meet the unique needs of the targeted audience. Niche marketers must tailor their product to meet those unique needs. If, for example, you have designed a product to make poodle grooming easy enough for the untrained professional to do it, those who own poodles will be most interested in your product. Those who own Blood Hounds or cats couldn’t care less. If you have written an e-book that will explain how to start and succeed at an online business, those who are looking for that information are your niche market. Those who are happy doing what they are doing are not interested at all.

Niche marketing is a very effective and cost efficient way to advertise and sell specific products or services to a specific audience or, hopefully, buyers of that product or service.

  • Nice post Munir but what else is new. Everything you write and share is worth the read. Niche marketing has always been a bit confusing for me. And I bet I’m not the only one. Your definition is explained that even I can separate niche and marketing and see the meaning. How you should target your specific market. I am sure this post will help many. Thanks for all that you do for the internet marketing world Munir. Sincerely
    David

    • Thanks David as usual,
The reason of posting a new post after a long time was to
really understand how i can give more value to my audience…

Then I realized many struggle to really understand the Niche marketing…

So I am going to do many post on Niche marketing so the audience really
understand where they stand in their business…

  • Hi Munir.

Nice post. Short and to the point.

In this day and age, if you aren’t focusing on your targeted audience, you’ll just run around in circles and not become successful.

The more specialized the niche, the better your chances are to make your brand stand out. Take internet marketing as an example. That’s a huge niche. Now if we look at say traffic generation using social media, we’re getting more focused on who we want to target.

We could go further and focus on one aspect of social media like Facebook or Twitter and get ultra targeted people to help.

Thanks for explaining this for those who don’t really understand niche marketing.

    Have a great week……….Chris

    • Hey Chris,
I’m so happy that this post was very beneficial for you and yes
it is important people understand the right Niche….

Once they define the Niche they really could fin their targeted audience
from various social media sites and Niche related forum… 🙂

  • Hi Munir – nice post about niche marketing 🙂

  • Great post Munir.

Never really understood niche marketing and you have explained it very well and to the point.

    Thank you 🙂

  • Dear Munir,
this is a great post because for a while I struggled with how I was going to mesh MMO and Self-improvement together. A lot of people kept saying to me “What is your niche?” That wasn’t my problem because I have known my Niche for the last 10 Years.

My problem was dovetailing them together. I like the example you use about the dogs, because it clearly defines who our target audience is. I have come to realize that my forte is Self-development and mind work and how I can help Internet Marketers realize their potential. There is no better way for me to know that then to go through it myself.
So now I stand in a place where I am clearer about HOW I can help people in the Internet Marketing Business to make money online. Thanks for this post -I loved that it was short and sweet.
Often that can be a clearer message.-Jennifer
